Islas Cies

The Islas Cies is an incredible and spectacular set of islands just off the coast of Vigo. We decided to go after reading about the main beach Playa de Rodas.

We took a ferry from Vigo port and it took about 40 minutes to get to the islands.

This cruise ship was HUGE!

It was a calm day at sea, Carrie's hair usually looks like this.

We camped for 5 days here.

Playa de Rodas

The sand here was so fine and white...

...and the water was crystal clear

We hiked to the highest point of the Islands along the Monte Faro route.

Faro de Cies

Beautiful sunset at the lago (lake) near the Campsite

Restaurante Serafin hidden in the bushes

The bridge across the lago meant you could see all sorts of fish swimming around. It was like an aquarium.

Santiago de Compostela

We arrived in Santiago the day before The Feast of St. James, the city was all geared up for a huge party. This years celebrations turned to grief because of a train crash just outside the city. The tragedy killed over 70 people and celebrations were cancelled as the city had three days of mourning.

Before celebrations were cancelled

Praza do Obradoiro has four very historic buildings on each side. This is Pazo de Raxoi, Santiagos palace

Parador Santiago de Compostela is considered to be the worlds oldest hotel.

Highly recommend O Gato Negro, if you can get in!

Rúa de Franco, a street of restaurants and bars

We tried to find as many pilgrims as possible, this guy wins.

Las Dos Marias, apparently these two lost their minds in the civil war and thought they were young ladies again, wearing colourful outfits and loads of make up. They liked to flirt with all the young men and must have made quite an impression to get their own statues!

The weather wasn't kind to us.

The Cathedral from Paseo de Ferradura

Carries pulled!

¿Donde está Duncanito?

Hmmm, copyright infringement?

Carrie the crusty pilgrim

Caught in a thunderstorm just behind the Cathedral

We hear there is heatwave in England. We'll be back with beach shots and sunburn in Vigo, our next stop.

A Coruña

We only spent 1 night in A Coruña because of a bus cock up but had a good time and got a Game of Thrones fix too.

The beautiful Playa del Orzán

Street decoration for the Medieval Festival

Kids ride, not sure how safe this was?

Mr Mouriños side business, life size model.

Carrie got a HOT one!!!

There were so many stalls lining the Old Town streets. Meat, cheese, herbs, spices and all sorts of medieval themed goodies.

Birds of prey entertaining the kids (and Carrie)

Proper chocolate fingers.

Lots and lots of Té

Watford Massive

He's got the horn

Big helmet

Blowing his pipe

Plaza de Maria Pita was transformed into a Medieval Tournament

I miss Game of Thrones.

Not quite Vamp baby but we liked these two.
